Lady Lions drop a tough one at Memorial Gym

The Rushville Lady Lions hosted Mt Vernon (Fortville) on Friday night. A close scoring game throughout the contest resulted in the Lady Lions falling to 3-1 on the season after a 54-50 loss. The first frame saw three Rushville players get on the scoreboard as they were outscored by a basket and down 10-8 to start the second period. A three pointer from Kylee Herbert pulled Rushville within a point of Mt. Vernon before the Lady Marauders hit back-to-back long balls, increasing their score to 18. Belle Gossett and Leonie Boyer made their way to the free throw line and closed out the half with both of them hitting their shots and the score was 18-17 at the midway point. Briley Munchel was clutch in the third frame with eight points and Boyer added seven. Mt Vernon just happened to put up 23 points in the frame and take a 41-36 lead into the final quarter. Mt. Vernon was able to fend off Rushville going up 49-43 with just three minutes to go. The Lady Lions battled back to get within a point after a huge Munchel three pointer and a Gossett free throw. Forced to foul, Rushville sent three different opponents to the charity stripe where they combined to hit five of the six attempts and secure a 54-50 win. Rushville was led in scoring by Munchel with 19, followed by Boyer’s 17, Gossett added eight and Herbert finished with 6 points. The Lady Lions will be on the road this evening to take on Beech Grove. The tip is a 6pm.
