Greensburg finds out East Central is willing and Trabel

If it was ever in question which EIAC girls’ basketball team is the top on the totem pole, Josie Trabel answered that Tuesday night. Her East Central Lady Trojans hosted Greensburg. Trabel faced off with Leah West in a battle of the top scoring players in the conference with West putting up 17.5 ppg and Trabel averaging 17.8. For the first half West had her team battling even with the three-peat champ Lady Trojans but Trabel took matters into her own hands in the third quarter putting up 14 of EC’s 19 points in the frame. She added five more in the fourth quarter and finished the contest with 25 while holding West to just 12 points on the night. East Central pulled out a 53-42 win, giving them a 5-4 record on the season and a 2-0 start in EIAC matchups. Greensburg drops below .500 on the year with a 3-4 record. The loss puts them at 0-1 in EIAC games.
East Central came out firing on all cylinders with Caitlyn Dick and Trabel getting EC started with a 5-0 run to begin play. West scored the first basket for the Lady Pirates to stop the two-minute scoring run by the home team. Dick scored again then West countered with a long ball, and it was 7-5 in the Lady Trojans favor. That was the last shot Greensburg would hit over the next four minutes as EC 9-0 run. The first frame finished with EC up 18-6. The Lady Bucs battled back in the second period starting the frame with four players hitting from downtown. West, Emma Adams, and Aly Powers all hitting a three, and Mary Harmon tied the game up at 18-18 with just 2:20 played in the frame when she completed the quartette of trey’s for GCHS. Dick answered back for EC scoring six in the period, Emily Klem chipped in a basket with just over a minute left in the half and EC pushed the lead back to eight. Harmon saved face for Greensburg adding another triple with 30 seconds to go, making the score 27-21 at the half.

The third frame belonged to Trabel who collected six quick points from two, and-one opportunities and hit six field goals in the period. Dick added a three and Laney Baker hit two freebies as the Lady Pirates fell behind 46-31 to start the final frame. Trabel scored the first three points in the fourth quarter then Adams hit a three-point shot and that was the last score for the next five minutes as the teams stayed at a 49-34 stalemate. Trabel broke that with 1:40 left to play by hitting a basket to start a mini scoring spree from both teams. Powers, Emma McQueen, and Carmen Thackery all scored for the Lady Bucs and Baker for EC to finish the contest with the Lady Trojans winning 53-42.
