Connersville cruises to first EIAC win

Rushville- The Rushville Lions hosted the Connersville Spartans on Friday evening. The senior laden Spartans, led by former Lions head coach Kerry Brown earned their first EIAC win with a 64-39 victory. Connersville had eight players score in the game and three in double figures. Braxton Myers led all scorers putting up 21 points in the contest. Rushville had seven players score in the game and their senior captain Dylan Thompson fouled out early in the final quarter dropping the Lions to 0-2 to start the season.  

The Spartans started the game on a 12-0 run before Thompson finally hit a free throw at the 3:50 mark to stop the CHS run. XxZavien Jenkins and Chase Woolf each hit a three-pointer for the Lions in the frame. Braxton Myers paced Connersville in the first quarter with eight points and Lucas Barron scored five, including the Spartans only three-point basket and Connersville led by 10 after the first period, 17-7. The Spartans dominated the second quarter outscoring the Lions 15-3 in the frame, they took a 32-10 lead into halftime. Five different players scored in the quarter for CHS with Barron and Josh Williams leading the way with four each.

Quentin Cain found his stroke in the third quarter and sunk two baskets in a row from downtown. Williams put up seven points in the third period for CHS and increased their lead to 30 points. Kameron Morton added a three just before the frame ended and the score was 50-23 going into the fourth quarter. The Lions started the final period with a short hot streak going on a 7-0 run, a turnaround jumper from Williams with 5:30 to go and Myers added seven points giving coach Brown a 30-point lead midway through the period. The Lions got a three pointer from four different players to finish the game out scoring CHS 16-14 in the quarter. Jaden Peterson added a last minute three for the Spartans to give them a 64-39 conference win and move them to 2-1 on the season. The Lions loss drops them to 0-2.

Both teams are back in action this evening. Connersville travels to Shelbyville (1-1) and Rushville hosts New Palestine (2-0) both games have a 7:30 varsity tip time.
