The Greensburg Lady Pirates dominate South Dearborn

AURORA- The South Dearborn Lady Knights hosted the Greensburg Lady Pirates on Thursday evening. SD has struggled to get a win, losing seven in row coming into last night’s game. The Lady Pirates came in fresh off a conference win over Connersville. Greensburg kept the momentum going from the last game and pulled away for the Lady Knights early in the contest and cruised to a 43-point win moving them to 5-4 on the season and 2-1 in EIAC games.

South Dearborn got on the board first with a Gracie Messmore basket. Greensburg then took over going on a 9-0 run with Leah West (5 points) and Aly Powers (4 points) to take a 9-2 lead. SD’s Natalie Cantrell hit a basket and Messmore added a three pointer, but West took over scoring 10 more points in the quarter and Carlee Adams hit an open three to put the Lady Pirates up 24-11 after the first period. Opposite the first quarter, the second was slow to start with neither team scoring in the first three minutes of the period. Sarah Stapp broke the drought with two points from the charity stripe. Stapp added the next basket, Powers and West then continued Greensburg on a 13-0 run putting them up 37-13 at the half. The second half Greensburg defense held SD without a field goal until 22 seconds left in the game when Riley Lagaly hit a basket from the paint. Eight free throws on 10 attempts were the only other points the Lady Knights scored in the second half. Greensburg added 16 in the third quarter and another 13 in the fourth to pull out a 66-23 win.
