Lady Trojans keep rolling

The East Central and Batesville girls basketball teams faced off on Saturday. A top of the key three from Josie Trabel to start the game would predict the rest of the contest. Trabel led all scorers with 37 points on the night. She followed her opening trey with an easy lay in off and inbound pass, and EC was off and running going up 11-2 mid-quarter. Batesville’s lone basket came from a Lydia Haskamp jumper. A pair of Emma Weiler free throws and a Cora Deputy three-pointer soon had BHS down by just six. Trabel finished the period with an old fashioned three-point play giving her 15 in the frame. Laney Baker’s four points put the Lady Trojans tally at 19. The Lady Dogs got a pair of deep balls one from Haskamp and Deputy got her second to put the score at 19-13 after one period.

Haskamp got Batesville within four after opening the second frame with a 15-foot jumper. The Lady Trojans then went on a 11-0 run holding BHS scoreless until a pair of late quarter three’s pulled Batesville within eight points of EC. The Lady Dogs final possession of the half netted them two more points off a Sophie Gesell layup and the score was 30-24 at the half.

East Central came out in the second half and went on an 8-0 run. Gesell scored off a steal for BHS with 3:00 to go in the frame, EC out scored the Lady Dogs for the rest of the frame 7-4 and it was 45-30 through three quarters. East Central outscored Batesville in the final frame 15-8 and the held the Lady Dogs leading scorer Alyson Peters to just one basket on the night, the final basket of the game. The 60-38 win puts EC at 10-4 on the season and 4-0 in EIAC games. Batesville falls to 4-8 and 1-3 in EIAC matchups.
