Lady Lions downed by Seymour

SEYMOUR – Rushville’s Lady Lions made the long trek south to Seymour Thursday morning and carried a 48-34 defeat home with them on the bus ride. 

Rushville looked comfier in the Owls’ gymnasium in the early going, putting together a 12-5 swing and leading 17-11 after eight minutes of play. However, the Lions managed just six more field goals against Owl defenders the rest of the way in being outscored 37-17. 

Seymour opened the second period on a 9-0 run to take a 3-point lead at 20-17. Each side added a deuce, and it was 22-19 at intermission. 

The Lions were outrebounded in the contest, 31-17. Seymour had three girls in double figures to zero for Rushville. Kendall Sterling led the way with 13 points. Briley Munchel hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 8 points. Leonie Boyer added 7, Belle Gossett and Kiley Parsley 5 apiece with one triple each, Gracie Buzzard 4, Kylee Herbert 3 on a deep ball and Olivia Smith 2.

RCHS (6-7) plays in the Northridge holiday tourney Dec. 29-30, facing NorthWood, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger and Merrillville in pool play before a final game to decide placement.
