Rushville finishes fourth at Interra Classic
The Rushville Lady Lions opened the Northridge Interra Classic Thursday with a narrow 47-45 loss to NorthWood. The Lady Lions led after the first period 13-12 and they led by a bucket at the half 19-17. Through three frames Rushville still led 32-30. The Lady Panthers put up 17 to the Lady Lions 13 final quarter points to pull out a fourth quarter win 47-45. Leonie Boyer led RCHS in scoring with 12, connecting on 4 of 13, Briley Munchel finished with 11, Belle Gossett 8, Gracie Buzzard 6, Kylee Herbert 5, and Kiley Parsley 3.
The Lady Lions followed the first loss up with a 42-38 victory over Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger. The two teams were tied after the first period at 9-9. They out scored the Lady Saints 19-12 in the second frame and 12-11 in the third. Rushville only managed two final quarter points buut held on to win 42-38. Munchel led the way in game two with 17-points, Boyer added 14, Gossett 6, Herbert 3, and Olivia Smith 2.
On Friday, the Lady Lions faced off against Merrillville. The Lady Pirates led Rushville through three quarters. They led 9-8 after one, 20-19 at the half, and 31-28 through three quarters. Rushville took over in the final frame and put up 11-points while holding the Lady Saints to just four and earning a 39-35 win to move into the third/fourth place matchup. There, Andrean took care of business with a 52-27 final over Rushville. The Lady Lions fun behind 10-5 after one quarter and found themselves down 23-9 at the half. Gossett put up 16 of Rushville’s 27-points in the game while Munchel added 6, Herbert 4, and Carley Senour saw varsity action and netted a free throw for the Lady Lions.
Northridge smoked NorthWood for the championship and Rushville finished in fourth place. Briley Munchel was named to the All-Tournament team. RCHS (8-9) hosts conference rival Franklin County (10-3) Tuesday.
