Lady Pirates suffer a loss to Brownstown Central
The Greensburg Lady Pirates traveled to Brownstown on Thursday evening to take on the #11 ranked Lady Braves. Brownstown Central came in with a 13-5 record, while Greensburg was looking for their twelve win on the season. Greensburg’s outside game wasn’t working and the Lady Braves led after one period 13-9. The Lady Bucs tied it back up at the half and finished the third quarter on a 10-0 run to go up 36-33. They held the lead until the final 30 seconds when a three pointer by Brownstown put them up. The Lady Braves finished the game with a pair of free throws for a 47-43 win. The loss for GCHS puts them at 11-8 on the season.
Leah West kept the Lady Bucs in the game early on, scoring the first five-points for Greensburg. Mary Harmon and Aly Powers added a basket each in the first period. West scored again for Greensburg to start the second period before the Lady Braves went on a run and going up 19-14 midway through the frame. The Lady Pirates finished the half with baskets from Powers and West, then Harmon hit a free throw to tie the game up 19-19 at the half.
Greensburg’s Powers and Harmon started the third period going four-of-four from the foul line. A Brownstown three put them up by four, until Carlee Adams got on the board with her own basket from deep. The Lady Braves then hit consecutive three-point baskets and the score was 33-26 with three minutes to go in the period. West cut the lead after hitting two shots in a row, Harmon got a basket to drop in, and the Lady Pirates were back to being down by just one. With 40 seconds to go in the period, Powers scored, and Greensburg had their first lead of the ball game. Powers pushed the lead to three by dropping in a basket at the buzzer. Greensburg led going into the fourth quarter 36-33. West pushed it to a five-point lead before the Lady Braves went on a 6-0 run and it was 39-38 Brownstown. Harmon regained the lead for Greensburg and Adams landed another from outside the arc putting the Lady Bucs up 43-39. With one minute to go the Lady Braves hit a three-point shot, 30 seconds later another to go up by two. A pair of free throws by the Lady Braves finished off the game and Brownstown Central won 47-43.
Leading the Lady Pirates in scoring was West with 15, Powers 13, Harmon 9, and Adams 6. Greensburg will get a week off to prepare for an EIAC matchup on the road against Batesville (9-8) on Jan 21.
