Peters lights up Lady Knights in Batesville win

AURORA- The South Dearborn Lady Nights hosted Batesville on Friday evening. The Lady Bulldogs entered the contest at 8-8 on the season and riding a five-game win streak. SD came in fresh off a win over Oldenburg and winners of two of their last four games.

The Lady Dogs came out hot starting the game on a 6-0 run. Gracie Messmore scored from deep for the Lady Knights but a three-point retaliation basket from BHS senior Emma Weiler made it 9-3. Bernadette Wismann knocked down a pair of free throws and SD trailed by four after the first quarter. Cora Deputy got Batesville started in the second quarter and they bumbed their lead to 10. The Lady Knights then scored four unanswered points with Wissman and Natalie Rupp scoring from the charity stripe. The Lady Dogs finished the period with Claire Saner and Ava Hanson pushing the lead back to 10 and it was 22-12 at the half.

South Dearborn came out in the third period and cut the lead to six after a Rupp long ball. Weiler hit from deep again and the Lady Dogs ended the quarter outscoring SD 8-4 to take a 30-22 lead into the final quarter. The Lady Dogs Alyson Peters took over in the final frame, scoring all 12 of Batesville’s points. Rupp scored five for SD and Lakota Vincent added a basket, but the Lady Dogs already had the game in hand and cruised to a 42-29 win. SD is now 5-15 on the season and 0-5 in EIAC games. Batesville is now 10-8 and 2-3 in EIAC games. The Lady Dogs are back in action this evening when they host Hauser (9-6).
