Lady Dogs win seventh in a row

The Batesville girls basketball team faced the Hauser Lady Jets on Saturday and earned their seventh win in a row. The Lady Dogs controlled the first quarter with Sophia Gesell scoring first and Lydia Haskamp adding another bucket putting BHS up before a three pointer from Hauser landed. Batesville continued to score and went up 9-3. Marlee Obermeyer hit from downtown and Claire Saner sank a buzzer beater to end the period with BHS up 16-9.

Hauser began the second period on a 6-2 run and pulled within three of the Lady Dogs. Batesville worked the paint and pulled back ahead with Alyson Peters and Haskamp scoring inside. Hauser scored four unanswered points but Obermeyer added five more points in the quarter including a last second shot from deep that landed giving the Lady Dogs a 31-24 lead at the half. Hauser began the second half landing a three-pointer, but Haskamp and Emma Weiler scored keeping the BHS lead at seven. Makayla Granger-Young got on the scoreboard in the third quarter sinking a deep ball and hitting two freebies to put Batesville up by 10. Hauser got four more points in the frame and the Lady Dogs got an old fashioned three-point play from Gesell to lead after three quarter 42-33. The Lady Jets came out on a 9-0 run to start the fnal period and the Lady Dogs were only up by two midway through the period. Haskamp  scored again before Hauser took the lead on a pair of free throws. Weiler hit from deep regaining the lead for BHS with less then two minutes to play. Hauser managed just a free throw as Gesell and Peters closed out the game from the charity stripe giving Batesville a 52-48 win.

Leading the Lady dogs in scoring was Haskamp with 12, followed by Gesell 11, Obermeyer 8, Weiler 7, Peters 5, Granger-Young 5, and Saner 4. The win is number 11 for Batesville on the season. They will take on Rushville (9-12) on Thursday when they travel to Memorial Gym for an EIAC battle.
