LIBERTY- Union County turned themselves around this week after a seven-game skid to beat the Rushville Lions, 41-39, on a buzzer beater at Roy E. Stevens Gymnasium. 

Kameron Morton gave the Lions a 5-0 lead to start the game. UC scored their first points midway through the first quarter. Two minutes later UC was up 9-7, Rushville got a basket from Chase Woolf and the score was 9-9 after the first frame. Morton got the Lions ahead to start the second period with a layup. Dylan Thompson, Nick Jarman, and Danny Corn scored for RCHS to put the Lions up 17-13 with 5:00 to play in the half. UC pulled it back to a two-point game before Morton hit four freebies on four attempts and a field goal to go up 24-17 at the half.

Thompson started the Lions off in the third period scoring four quick points, Jarman added another basket, and the Lions went up 30-20. The Patriots then went on a 7-2 run to close out the quarter and it was a five-point game with Rushville up 32-27. UC got the first basket in the fourth quarter cutting it to a one possession game, and another to pull within a point. Thompson got the lead back with the Lions first basket in the period, but UC tied it right back up 34-34. The Patriots then went on a 5-0 run, and they led by five midways through the final quarter. Jarman went to the line for Rushville and hit both freebie attempts, and a Kane Thompson three pointer tied the game up at 39-39 with two minutes to go in the game. With 30 seconds remaining Rushville held for the last shot, a miss by D. Thompson that was rebounded by UC’s Nick Watterson with four seconds to go. He threw an outlet pass to the corner where Brad Meadows was waiting, and his shot landed as the buzzer went off giving UC a 41-39 win. The loss drops the Lions to 3-11 on the season. They will Host another TEC team tomorrow night at Memorial Gym, when Northeastern (10-3) comes to town.
