Pirates win streak now at six with win over Lawrenceburg

Two of the winningest teams in the EIAC faced off on Friday evening when the Lawrenceburg Tigers (13-4) hosted the Greensburg Pirates (12-4) in a game that did not disappoint. The lead changed hands several times throughout the game, but a fourth quarter comeback and perfect free throw shooting to close out the game by the Pirates, sealed them a win and improved their EIAC record to 4-1 on the season. The Tigers are now 1-2 in conference games this season.
Jack McKinsey got the Bucs on the board to start the game, and they pushed the lead to nine by the midway point in the period. Logan Rohrer got the Tigers back in the game scoring five unanswered points and Ben Cornett hit a jumper to bring Lawrenceburg within two-points of the Pirates. A Ki Dyer three gave the Bucs a five-point lead with two minutes to go in the period. Cooper Bobo then hit back-to-back from deep, and Lawrenceburg had their first lead of the contest 17-16. Gerrold Taylor sank a three and with the last possession, the Bucs ran down the clock with Dyer hitting the final shot making it 20-18 in the Tigers favor through one quarter.
Rohrer opened the second quarter with another three-point basket. Abe Tebbe scored on a put back for Greensburg before the Tigers went on a 7-0 run. Bobo led the charge scoring half of the Tigers points in the period, and with 30 seconds to go in the half Addison Barnes-Petitt made a basket and drew a foul, and after sinking the freebie, it made it a seven-point game at the half with the Tigers up 30-23.
The outside shooting game of Lawrenceburg pushed their lead to double digits just two minutes into the third quarter. Dyer then hit twice from the Pirates, a layup, and once from deep, Jeter Edwards added two more and the Bucs had pulled within five of Lawrenceburg with two minutes to go I the period. Rohrer drained an open three pointer for the Tigers, but Barnes-Petitt matched that just before the frame ended and the score through three was 42-37 in favor of Lawrenceburg.
The final quarter started with the Tigers getting a basket from Cornett to go up by seven. The Pirates then came alive and scored 11 unanswered points to take a 48-44 lead. The remainder of the points scored came from the charity stripe. First Rohrer hit both of his attempts for LHS, to make it a one possession game, and then Greensburg went six of six from the line with Edwards, Dyer, and Bradley Lutz all going two for two. With 25 seconds left the Tigers got one last point, a free throw from Cornett making the final score 54-47 Greensburg.
Lawrenceburg was led in scoring by Rohrer with 16, followed by Bobo’s 15, Taylor finished with 6, B. Cornett 5, Charlie Meyer 3, and Same Cornett 2
Greensburg’s scoring leader on the night was Dyer with 18, Edwards 13, McKinsey 10, Barnes-Petitt 6, Lutz 5, and Tebbe 2.
Next up for the Tigers is a home contest and EIAC matchup against East Central (5-11, 3-0) on Thursday. Greensburg will also host an EIAC game on Thursday when the Rushville Lions (4-13, 0-4) come to town. Both games have a 7:30pm varsity tip time.
