Knights win one, lose one in double header

Eight runs by the Knights in the second inning over New Albany led to a 10-4 win on Saturday afternoon. A tough 12-0 loss in the second game to Floyd Central has SD at 1-1 to start the season. They travel to Rushville this evening to start conference play.

New Albany

Adam Kunkel scored in the first inning for SD and Clay Gentry singled in Kadence Taylor to give the Knights a 2-0 lead after the first inning. SD got the bats hot in the second inning putting up eight runs, Dylan Wynn, Ryan Willoughby, Braden Foist, Ryan Richard, and Connor Huff all picked RBI’s in the frame. New Albany scored a run in four of the next five innings while shutting out SD. The Knights held on for a 10-4 win, picking up 11 hits. Willoughby started the game on the mound for the Knights and earned the win in his three innings. He finished with six strikeouts, issued one walk, and gave up three hits. Kunkel  and Gentry finished the game with two innings each.

Floyd Central

The Knights failed to get a hit or add a run to the scoreboard in their second contest on Saturday. They took on the #2 ranked Floyd Central Highlanders in their three o’clock game. Logan Thies started the contest and went three innings with four K’s. Max Burger pitched two thirds of an inning while six runs crossed the plate for Floyd Central. SD only saw two baserunners in the game with Willoughby and Ryan Richard reached first on walks. The Knights lost the game 12-0.
