Lady Cats move to 9-0

BROOKVILLE- The Lady Wildcats are now 9-0 to start the season after a Monday night win over EIAC rival East Central. Franklin County scored multiple runs in the first three innings and the Lady Trojans were unable to catch up, despite a three-run fifth frame, FC won the game 8-4.  

Lady Cats started in the bottom of the first inning with a Kiersten Schell double that scored Josie Rolfes and Kassidy Schell. Bailey Kaiser led off the second inning with a solo homerun to leftfield and Rolfes hit a two RBI double that scored Brooke Stang and Maci Lake. The Lady Cats led after two frames 5-0.

East Central got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, Emily Klem singled and scored on an error to make the score 5-1. Annie Hoff added to FC’s score in the bottom of the third when she knocked in Kensee Ferman. A Stang double netted the sophomore two RBIs for the Lady Cats to put them up 8-1.

The Lady Trojans began the fifth frame with baserunners (Allison Davis & Payge Callahan) getting on via walks. Emma Bruss doubled scoring both runners, Montana Plymale picked up a sac hit RBI to knock Bruss in, and East Central pulled halfway to FC and was down by four. Neither team scored the remainder of the game and the Lady Cats picked up the win with an 8-4 final score.

Franklin County was led by the pitching of Rolfes who went the distance striking out four and earning the win. Kaiser homered and had a double in the game, and Stang finished with three hits in the contest.

East Central started with Lexi Hatmaker in the circle, the junior allowed six earned runs in her three innings pitched. A. Davis tossed two innings and Plymale finished the game for the Lady Trojans without allowing a baserunner. Klem had three hits and a stolen base on the night and Callahan had two hits and drew a walk.

East Central, who is now 3-6 on the season, takes on Jennings County on Thursday. The Lady Cats will look to improve to 10-0 on Wednesday evening when they host South Dearborn.
