History

E.I.A.C. History
The Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference was originally formed in 1956, being equal part defections from the East Central Conference and the Southeastern Indiana Conference. From the ECC came Brookville High School (Greyhounds), Cambridge City High School (Wampus Cats) and Hagerstown High School (Golden Tigers); leaving the SIC were Aurora High School (Red Devils), Batesville High School (Bulldogs) and Lawrenceburg High School (Tigers).

Of those charter members, only Batesville and Lawrenceburg have remained over the 66-year life of the league. Brookville and Laurel High School (Panthers) consolidated to form Franklin County High School in 1989. Aurora brought in Dillsboro (Bulldogs) and Moores Hill (Bobcats) high schools to become South Dearborn High School in 1978. FCHS and SDHS continued as members of the EIAC.

Cambridge City incorporated Milton High School (Sharpshooters) to become Cambridge City Lincoln High School (or just Lincoln). Hagerstown added students from Economy (Cardinals) and Greens Fork (Black Demons) high schools. Hagerstown and Cambridge City Lincoln are now members of the Tri-Eastern Conference.

In 1962, the northernmost schools Cambridge City and Hagerstown departed and into their place

stepped the Milan Indians, the North Vernon Panthers and the North Dearborn Vikings. North Dearborn High School consolidated with Sunman (Tigers), Bright (Panthers) and Guilford (Wildcats/Quakers) high schools to produce East Central High School in 1973; the newly named Trojans have since become a perennial force to be reckoned with in the EIAC. North Vernon grouped with nearby schools to form Jennings County High School, leaving the league in ’73. Little Milan competed for 23 years before bowing out in 1985.

Nearby South Decatur High School (Cougars) in Westport had a brief stay in the conference from 1973-77. Greensburg Community High School and its Pirates came on board in 1974. The next expansion would not come until the year 2013 when the Connersville Spartans and Rushville Consolidated Lions agreed to boost the EIAC’s membership from six to its current eight-school field.

1956-62 – six schools; 1962-74 – seven schools; 1974-77 – eight schools; 1977-85 – seven schools; 1985-2013 – six schools; 2013-present – eight schools.
