Lady Lions rockin’ and a roarin’

The Rushville Lady Lions and Greensburg Lady Pirates faced off in round one of the 2023 sectionals on Wednesday evening. In a game that most thought should be the championship game, both teams displayed why folks thought that the case. Greensburg stormed out to an early lead, but the Lady Lions clawed their way back and took the lead in the third period. The Lady Bucs were able to tie the game up but Rushville held them off long enough to get a two-point win and move on to the next round.
Leah West and Aly Powers got the Lady Bucs off to a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. Rushville senior Belle Gossett hit two free throws to get the Lady Lions on the board and Leonie Boyer added a field goal to make it a one-point game. Boyer hit two more shots, but Greensburg’s Mary Harmon landed back-to-back three-pointers and the Lady Bucs were up 13-8. Rushville’s Briley Munchel hit from deep closing the gap, but the Lady Bucs finished the first quarter with eight more points, two Carlee Adams three-pointers and a West two-pointer. Greensburg led after the first period 21-13. Greensburg’s first six points in the second quarter came from West, Gossett was able to hit two more free throws and the Lady Pirates led by 12. Rushville made a run to close the gap before the half ended and outscored Greensburg 6-2 over the last three minutes in the quarter (RCHS-Boyer 4, Gossett 2, GCHS West 2) making the score 29-21 at the half, in favor of Greensburg.
Coming out of the break down by eight, Rushville chipped away at the Lady Bucs lead. Munchel scored six-points in the first two minutes, Boyer added a pair of freebies, and it was just a one-point game with five minutes remaining in the third period. An Adams three got Greensburg back up momentarily, RCHS got another Munchel basket, Boyer tied it at 35-35, and Kylee Herbert scored to give Rushville their first lead of the game with 2:30 to go in the third. Gossett and Munchel both scored again giving the Lady Lions a seven-point lead. Powers and West scored back-to-back for the Lady Bucs, but Herbert ended the half with two more points and RCHS led after three quarters 44-40.

West opened the final frame with two points from the charity stripe, the Lady Lions matched that with Munchel sinking her pair. The West hit one of two the next round and Gossett match her output hitting the front end of her pair and it remained a four-point lead for the Lady Lions. West closed it to a one-point lead midway through the frame when she hit from deep, Gossett hit two freebies before West powered in a basket in the paint. Powers followed that with two more points for GCHS and the game was tied at 50-50 with just one minute remaining. The next 50 seconds resulted in four Munchel free throws and another from Boyer to put Rushville up by five. With less than a second left on the clock Powers drained a three pointer for the Lady Bucs, but Rushville claimed the victory with a score of 55-53.
The Lady Lions will play the Franklin County Wildcats on Friday at 7:30 in round two of sectional 29 for a chance to play in the championship on Saturday. Greensburg ends the season with a 13-10 record.

Sectional 29 girls basketball preview Rushville vs Greensburg

Greensburg (13-9) takes on Rushville (11-13) tonight at 7:30pm at the Memorial Gym in Rushville, in the first round of the 2023 sectionals.

The Coaches

Rushville- Melissa Marlow is one the winningest coaches in the state with a record of 336-221 in her 23 years leading the Lady Lions, just 17 wins from cracking the top 50 of all time. She has won 12 sectionals including the last two, last year over Greensburg and the season before over Lawrenceburg. She also holds three regional championships, and a semi state championship in 2010.

Greensburg- Jason Simpson holds a 159-59 record and his own semi state championship in 2018. He holds a .729 winning percentage good for 16th among active coaches with at least five years’ experience.

The two coaches are even in their head-to-head matchups. Both hold 8 wins each in the 16 matchups the two have faced off in.

The Players

Rushville has two talented seniors with plenty of experience. Belle Gossett and Briley Munchel are both multiyear starters and the combo is one of the best in the EIAC on defense. Munchel is averaging 13.1 ppg and 2.6 steals per game, her 62 swipes this season are good for third in the EIAC. Gossett’s 45 steals place her in the top 10 also. Gossett is the most accurate three-point shooter in the EIAC hitting 39% (29 of 74) of her shots from outside the arc, she is averaging 10.6 ppg and 6.9 rpg to go with her 1.9 steals per game. The Lady Lions also have a post player that can play in the paint and shoot from outside in Leonie Boyer who averages 12.8 ppg and 7.4 rpg.

Greensburg is led by their talented post player Leah West who averages 19.3 ppg (2nd in the EIAC) 8.1 rpg (4th in the EIAC) and 1.3 steals per game. The Lady Bucs also have a talented group of freshmen led by Aly Powers (13.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and Mary Harmon (8.3ppg, 3.4 apg) who have stepped up this season.

The last outing for Rushville resulted in a 59-35 loss to Columbus North and Greensburg defeated Lawrenceburg by 24-points last Thursday. The teams met on Dec 10; Greensburg won the contest 48-47.

The two teams over the last 20 years have played 29 times with the Lady Lions winning 21 of those games and the Lady Pirates 8.

JH Prediction – Greensburg 55-44

Trojans power through sectional; Wildcats runners-up

AURORA – East Central (253 points) captured another IHSAA wrestling sectional title Saturday at South Dearborn while the Franklin County Wildcats (207) battled to second place. The Trojans pushed five champions on to the Richmond Regional with FC, third-place Milan (180) and Connersville sending two each. Lawrenceburg, Greensburg and Union County had the other individual champs.
Remaining unbeaten through the first postseason weekend were Milan’s 106-pound freshman Matthew Baylor (41-0) and LHS’ Colton Roth at heavyweight (17-0).

EC’s top guys were Blake Wolf at 126, Dylan Lengerich at 145, Grayson Hylton at 152, Brayden Huber at 170 and Brendin Kolter at 182.

Representing FC atop the podium were Cole Freese at 113 and Colin Troyer one class up at 120. Levi DeGroat (220)
and Orlan Foster (195) were Connersville’s toughest, while Milan’s Indians saw Kaleb Wilburn (138) join
Baylor in the winner’s circle. Greensburg’s Preston Merritt was the best at 132 and Jordan Takara of UC ran through the 160 bracket.
Overall, EC got 11 wrestlers to the regional – top four in each weight class advanced – as FC totaled 10,
Milan 9, 4th -place Rushville 7, CHS 5, 6th -place UC 5, LHS 3, 9th -place Greensburg 3, SD 2 and last-place
Batesville 1.


Freese (35-3) had a bye and forfeit to the semifinals, then pinned Rushville’s Blake Hunt and earned a
10-1 major decision over EC’s Tyler Stenger in the final. Troyer (35-1) likewise moved into the semis with
no early foes, then won by fall over Connersville’s Aiden Maze and took less time to pin Milan’s Lucas
Richards in the championship bout. UC’s Landon Myers was 3 rd at 120.
Merritt (30-4) pinned CHS’ Gavin Lemen, then won by decision over UC’s Carson Whitley (7-1) and
edged EC’s Nyden Euson in the final match. Tuff Tackett of Rushville won by injury default over Whitley
in the second period of the 3 rd -place bout.
Takara (36-4) made quick work of LHS’ Trey Campbell in the quarterfinals, then majored Cameron Gilb of
Milan in the semis (13-5) and took down FC’s Hayden Newell early in the second period to claim the
title. Rushville’s Matthew Komlanc won a 3-1 decision over Gilb for third place.
FC had two more grapplers join Newell in the runner-up position. Lendon Sizemore pinned Kyle Mellon
of SD in the 220 division before duplicating a late pin over EC’s Brady Jones – similar match at the
conference meet – and falling to DeGroat in the second period. Breck Bohman at 170 pinned UC’s Matt
Wooley and earned a 13-5 major over LHS’ Drake Rorabacher. He was pinned late in the second period
by Huber. Rushville’s Sam Pavey was 4 th at 170.
Jesus “Chewy” Aquino-Morales took 2 nd at 126 as EC’s Blake Wolf pinned him in the finals. Chewy earlier
pinned Landin Shepherd of Greensburg, who ended up third when he pinned 4 th -place Kian Nash of
Rushville. In the heavyweight final, Batesville’s Max Amberger fought Roth to the end before losing by a
2-0 count; the 31-6 Amberger earlier pinned Parker Moles of UC and Gotts.
FC’s Nathan Noble was 3 rd at 195, narrowly losing to Milan’s Carson Betz but flourishing in the
consolation bracket. He pinned Rushville’s Kaleb Amos, won 3-0 over Greensburg’s Will Cunningham,
finally avenging his earlier loss by pinning Betz. Wildcat senior Clayton Bolser also took bronze in the 285
class. The big man was pinned by Rushville’s Trey Newman but pinned Milan’s Kyle Gotts and EC’s Matt
Mittermeier.

At 106, Zakk Reed of Rushville earned a pin over Greensburg’s Tristan Smith to decide third and fourth placement. UC’s Evan Wolf placed 3 rd at 145, pinning Rushville’s Denver Campbell, losing 7-0 to LHS’ Brayden Tudor, then majoring FC’s Dakota Schwab and Landon Walton of SD. Trevor Bruns of FC placed 4 th in the 138 bracket, falling twice to EC’s Tyson Miller but also getting wins over LHS’ Ben Heath and Rushville’s Pacey Dye. Teammate Cody Bolser was also 4 th at 152, falling to SD’s Nick Wismann before defeating LHS’ Braxton York and Batesville’s Hudson Kohlman. Also taking 4th was FC’s Phoenix Simons at 182; Simons pinned Rushville’s Elijah Biggs, was pinned by Milan’s Mason Green, then pinned LHS’ Patrick Nanz before losing by fall to Biggs in the rematch.
The Tiernan Center in Rishmond is host to regional action this Saturday. The other feeder sectional is Shenandoah. Wrestlers must
win at least one match to advance to semistate.

Pirates win streak now at six with win over Lawrenceburg

Two of the winningest teams in the EIAC faced off on Friday evening when the Lawrenceburg Tigers (13-4) hosted the Greensburg Pirates (12-4) in a game that did not disappoint. The lead changed hands several times throughout the game, but a fourth quarter comeback and perfect free throw shooting to close out the game by the Pirates, sealed them a win and improved their EIAC record to 4-1 on the season. The Tigers are now 1-2 in conference games this season.

Jack McKinsey got the Bucs on the board to start the game, and they pushed the lead to nine by the midway point in the period. Logan Rohrer got the Tigers back in the game scoring five unanswered points and Ben Cornett hit a jumper to bring Lawrenceburg within two-points of the Pirates. A Ki Dyer three gave the Bucs a five-point lead with two minutes to go in the period. Cooper Bobo then hit back-to-back from deep, and Lawrenceburg had their first lead of the contest 17-16. Gerrold Taylor sank a three and with the last possession, the Bucs ran down the clock with Dyer hitting the final shot making it 20-18 in the Tigers favor through one quarter.

Rohrer opened the second quarter with another three-point basket. Abe Tebbe scored on a put back for Greensburg before the Tigers went on a 7-0 run. Bobo led the charge scoring half of the Tigers points in the period, and with 30 seconds to go in the half Addison Barnes-Petitt made a basket and drew a foul, and after sinking the freebie, it made it a seven-point game at the half with the Tigers up 30-23.

The outside shooting game of Lawrenceburg pushed their lead to double digits just two minutes into the third quarter. Dyer then hit twice from the Pirates, a layup, and once from deep, Jeter Edwards added two more and the Bucs had pulled within five of Lawrenceburg with two minutes to go I the period. Rohrer drained an open three pointer for the Tigers, but Barnes-Petitt matched that just before the frame ended and the score through three was 42-37 in favor of Lawrenceburg.

The final quarter started with the Tigers getting a basket from Cornett to go up by seven. The Pirates then came alive and scored 11 unanswered points to take a 48-44 lead. The remainder of the points scored came from the charity stripe. First Rohrer hit both of his attempts for LHS, to make it a one possession game, and then Greensburg went six of six from the line with Edwards, Dyer, and Bradley Lutz all going two for two. With 25 seconds left the Tigers got one last point, a free throw from Cornett making the final score 54-47 Greensburg.

Lawrenceburg was led in scoring by Rohrer with 16, followed by Bobo’s 15, Taylor finished with 6, B. Cornett 5, Charlie Meyer 3, and Same Cornett 2

Greensburg’s scoring leader on the night was Dyer with 18, Edwards 13, McKinsey 10, Barnes-Petitt 6, Lutz 5, and Tebbe 2.

Next up for the Tigers is a home contest and EIAC matchup against East Central (5-11, 3-0) on Thursday. Greensburg will also host an EIAC game on Thursday when the Rushville Lions (4-13, 0-4) come to town. Both games have a 7:30pm varsity tip time.

Greensburg claims second place in EIAC with win over Lady Tigers

The Lady Pirates finished the regular season with a 23-point win over Lawrenceburg on Thursday evening. They locked in second place in the EIAC with a 6-1 record. East Central a perfect 7-0 won for the third consecutive season. The Lady Tigers honored their seniors Nicole Houze and Lizzie Redar with the pair playing their last home game of the season. Redar did drop 19 on the Lady Bucs in the loss. Second highest in the contest only to Leah West who finished with 22-points on the evening.

The first quarter started with a three from West, she scored again this time from the paint, and Aly Powers scored putting Greensburg up 7-0. Redar hit her first basket of the night from deep, stopping the Lady Bucs early run. A pair of three’s from Carlee Adams and Mary Harmon put Greensburg up 13-3 midway through the period. Lawrenceburg scored their next four-points from the line as the Lady Pirates quickly picked up six fouls in the first six minutes of play. Aubree Lobazzo went three of four and Redar hit one of her freebie attempts to make it a 13-7 ballgame. Powers scored for Greensburg, Redar again for LHS, and with 10 seconds left in the quarter, West put the Lady Pirates up 17-9 though one frame played.

The Lady Bucs added five more points to their tally to being the second quarter. West with a two and Emma McQueen from outside the arc put Greensburg up 22-9. Natalie Knigga and Redar scored for Lawrenceburg, then GCHS got an old fashioned three-point play from their lone senior Sarah Stapp. With the Lady Pirates up by 12, Lawrenceburg finished the second quarter closing the gap. Redar sank two deep balls, and a free throw each from Knigga and Kamryn Ferreira, sent the teams to the locker room at the half with Greensburg up by just four, with the score 25-21.

The Lady Bucs dominated Lawrenceburg in the second half, outscoring them 17-10 in the third frame, with Powers scoring six in the period to lead Greensburg. Lawrecneburg was down by 11 to start the final period and Lobazzo cut it to single digits on their first possession. The Lady Tigers managed just five more points in the quarter, while Greensburg put up 19-points led by West with nine. The Lady Pirates pulled out the win 61-38, The finished the regular season with a record of 13-9. The Lady Tigers finish thiert season with a record of 11-12 and went 3-4 in EIAC games.

Greensburg will face the Rushville Lady Lions on Wednesday in the first round of the sectionals at Rushville. Lawrenceburg drew the bye for the first round and will face the winner of Connersville and South Dearborn next Friday.

West finished the game with 22-points to lead all scorers, also scoring for Greensburg were Powers who added 12, Adams 9, Harmon 7, McQueen 6, and Stapp 5. For the Lady Tigers Redar led the way with 19, Labazzo 9, Brooklyn Craig 4, Knigga 3, Riley O’Brien 2, and Ferreira 1.

Lady Dogs no match for West and crew

A Saturday conference game between Greensburg and Batesville was a one-sided affair with Leah West and the Lady Pirates taking down the Lady Bulldogs 61-22. West got the Lady Bucs started scoring twice and a Mary Harmon longball put Greensburg up 7-0 within the first two minutes. Makayla Granger-Young broke the draught for BHS with a pair of free throws and Alyson Peters scored making it a 10-4 game. Aly Powers added the final two baskets in the period for Greensburg and they led 14-4 after one quarter. The Lady Bucs began the second quarter on a 14-0 run with West putting up seven of those points. With two minutes to go in the half Claire Saner finally stopped the onslaught with a basket. Greensburg added four more points and the score was 32-6 at the half.

The third quarter went the same as the rest with the Lady Pirates starting the frame on a 7-0 run before Granger-Young scored for the Lady Dogs. Marlee Obermeyer and Lexiyne Harris also scored in the quarter for BHS. after the 7-0 run Greensburg added 10 more in the frame and went into the fourth quarter up 49-14. Another eight points was scored by Batesville in the final quarter while the Lady Pirates added 11 to win the EIAC matchup by a score of 61-22.

West led Greensburg with 28 points in the contest, Harmon added 10, Carlee Adams 8, Powers 6, Sarah Stapp 5, and Emma McQueen 4.

Dogs fall to Pirates in EIAC contest

The Batesville boys basketball team suffered its first EIAC loss of the season Thursday at Greensburg, dropping a 51-33 contest to the Pirates.

Greensburg outscored BHS 13-12 in the first quarter and led 30-24 midway. The Dogs managed just 9 second-half points. The Bucs added 11-points in the third period and another 10 in the final quarter to win 51-33. GCHS’ Ki Dyer led all scorers with 15 and junior Sam Johnson paced the guests with 14 on four threes. Jeter Edwards and Addison Barnes-Pettit each racked up a dozen for the hosts and Cole Pride added 10 for BHS. Pride added 5 rebounds and 4 blocks. Edwards had 8 boards for the victors.

The Bucs also got points from Jack McKinsey 6, Abe Tebbe 4, and Justin Adkins 2. Batesville got five points from Jack Grunenmeyer to go with three steals and four assists, Cade Kaiser scored 2-points, and Gus Prikel finished with 2.

Teke Torches Bucs from deep in loss

AURORA- South Dearborn junior point guard Brodie Teke tied a school record with 10 three-pointers on Saturday night. Teke hit his first five deep balls in the first period and the Knights jumped out to a 17-8 lead. Jeter Edwards got Greensburg back in the game hitting two from deep to close out the first frame with the score 17-14. South Dearborn got a basket from Adam Kunkel, another from Breckin McCreary, and Teke’s sixth long ball made the score 24-16. The Pirates then went on a scoring run with Jack McKinsey hitting for three, Justin Adkins scored, and McKinsey picked up an old fashioned three-point play, closing the gap to three points. In the last minute of play in the half, both teams traded baskets from outside the arc. Ryan Willoughby hit for SD and McKinsey for the Bucs, and the score was 32-29 with the Knights up by three at the half.

The third period started with Greensburg getting three from Ki Dyer, then SD going on a 7-0 run. Abe Tebbe then got the Bucs on a roll with a basket, Dyer added another, and McKinsey hit a shot while being fouled and went to the charity stripe tying the game at 39-39 with the freebie. Willoughby put the Knights up by two to end the third period.

The final quarter started with SD going up 48-41 before Edwards took over the game for Greensburg and dropped 18 fourth quarter points. The Pirates took the lead with five minutes to go in the game, Teke tied the game back up at 55-55, but Edwards couldn’t be stopped, and the Bucs pushed the lead to six when the game ended with Greensburg getting the 66-60 win.

The win improves the Pirates record to 9-4 on the season and they are now 3-1 in EIAC games. South Dearborn is now 0-3 in EIAC games and 10-5 overall. The Bucs next contest will be on Friday when they host Brownstown Central (9-3). SD has an EIAC game on Wednesday when the travel to St. Leon to take on East Central (3-8) at 7:30pm.

Teke’s 30-points all on three’s led all scorers. Edwards finished with 26 in the game a new career high for the senior. Also scoring for Greensburg, McKinsey 14, Dyer 13, Tebbe 7, Addison Barnes-Pettit 2, Adkins 2, Grainger Maxwell 2. For the Knights Willoughby finished with 13, Hudson Schakelford 6, Zander Schwab 5, Kunkel 4, and McCreary 2.

Trojans claim another title Cats take second

LAWRENCEBURG – Although not sporting their most talented lineup in recent years, the East Central Trojans continued to show their superiority in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference wrestling realm with another title claimed Saturday at Lawrenceburg. EC scored 279 points with five champions as Franklin County settled for runner-up with 218 and a trio of champs. Rushville’s 195 was good for bronze. Connersville (3 champs), LHS (1 champ), South Dearborn (1 champ), Greensburg (1 champ) and Batesville rounded out the standings.

Colton Roth (285 pounds) of Lawrenceburg remains the league’s lone unbeaten wrestler as his record went to 13-0 with a 5-0 finals decision over Greensburg’s Robert Eisert (22-7). Eisert had narrowly escaped Batesville’s Max Amberger (28-5) in the semifinals, 3-2, after a pin of Rushville’s Justin Foreman. Roth pinned FC’s Clayton Bolser (9-7) in the second period in the other semi.

Colin Troyer of FC is now 30-1 after running through the 120 bracket unscathed. After a forfeit, Troyer earned a pin of Rushville’s Neeko Hodson, then needed 2:38 to pin EC’s Brayden Proctor. Proctor had earlier pinned BHS’ Cade Simonson in the third period.

FC’s Cole Freese won three matches to claim the 113 division and push his season mark to 29-2. Following a forfeit, Freese pinned Blake Hunt of Rushville early before outlasting EC’s Jaxon Carr 13-10 in the title bout.

The Wildcats’ third grappler to stand atop the podium was Hayden Newell at 160. Newell is now 24-6; a forfeit put him into the semis where he secured a third-period pin over EC’s Logan Schott. In the finals, Damien Dance of BHS was no match in a 15-2 major decision. Dance (28-3) had pinned the hosts’ Trey Campbell in the semifinal. Schott pinned Rushville’s Quinn Barada in the first round.

Preston Merritt of Greensburg stands at 27-4 as he was last man standing at 132. Merritt got a takedown in the first overtime period to defeat EC’s Nyden Euson. Merritt outpointed Rushville’s Tuff Tackett in the semifinal round (10-4) after Tackett had pinned Connersville’s Mauro Lopez. FC’s Avery Crouch lost a tough 9-8 battle to LHS’ Javier Payne in the opening round.

EC’s champs came at 126 (Blake Wolf), 145 (Dylan Lengerich), 152 (Grayson Hylton), 170 (Brayden Huber) and 182 (Brendin Kolter).

Kolter pinned FC’s Lane Westerman (21-6) in the finals after Westerman had dropped Elijah Biggs of Rushville, who himself earned a fall over CHS’ Kayden Woods. Huber was an 11-7 winner over the Cats’ Breck Bohman (8-3), the latter getting to the final by virtue of a pin against LHS’ Drake Rorabacher. Huber had pinned Rushville’s Sam Pavey in the semis after Pavey pinned Cash Boulware of CHS. It took Wolf 1:22 to get Greensburg’s Landin Shepherd on his back in the finals. Shepherd had earlier pinned Kian Nash of Rushville and Wolf the same over FC’s Roger Zurborg (9-7); Zurborg had pinned CHS’ Dylan Steele to start his day.

For the Spartans, Orlan Foster and Levi DeGroat locked down the 195 and 220 brackets, respectively. Foster pinned FC’s Nathen Noble (14-12) in the semis after Noble had pinned BHS’ John Dirkhising. EC’s Brayden Rouse was his finals opponent after Rouse pinned Greensburg’s Will Cunningham; Cunningham had won by fall over Rushville’s Kaleb Amos. DeGroat pinned FC’s Lendon Sizemore (24-5) in the second period of the finals after Sizemore had earned an exciting pin late in his semifinal match with EC’s Brady Jones. DeGroat won 7-0 over BHS’ Andrew Jones in his semifinal. A. Jones had earlier pinned Keilan Abdon of LHS while B. Jones did the same versus Rushville’s Jordan Collins.

Aric Fox has 15 season losses for CHS, but none came Saturday. Fox got by Batesville’s David Maher in the semis, 8-5, before getting a pin in the finals. In other 138 action, Rushville’s Pacey Dye majored FC’s Trevor Bruns 17-6 but was edged by EC’s Tyson Miller 5-3 in the semis.

SD’s Liam Hubbartt won the 106 bracket. Part of his path was a pin over Greensburg’s Tristan Smith, who had pinned CHS’ Audri Turley. EC’s Tyler Stenger pinned FC’s Bryce Bruns and Rushville’s Zakk Reed on his way to the finals.

In other 145 results, BHS’ Brady Wonnell was pinned by Rushville’s Denver Campbell and Greensburg’s Connor Campbell suffered the same fate vs. LHS’ Brayden Tudor. FC’s Dakota Schwab (20-10) was pinned by Tudor after pinning CHS’ Matt Koons. In more 152 action, FC’s Cody Bolser (8-9) pinned BHS’ Hudson Kohlman before being pinned by Hylton. Rushville’s Trenton Dyer lost by fall to CHS’ Jahmel Carter.

Lady Pirates suffer a loss to Brownstown Central

The Greensburg Lady Pirates traveled to Brownstown on Thursday evening to take on the #11 ranked Lady Braves.  Brownstown Central came in with a 13-5 record, while Greensburg was looking for their twelve win on the season. Greensburg’s outside game wasn’t working and  the Lady Braves led after one period 13-9. The Lady Bucs tied it back up at the half and finished the third quarter on a 10-0 run to go up 36-33. They held the lead until the final 30 seconds when a three pointer by Brownstown put them up. The Lady Braves finished the game with a pair of free throws for a 47-43 win. The loss for GCHS puts them at 11-8 on the season.

Leah West kept the Lady Bucs in the game early on, scoring the first five-points for Greensburg. Mary Harmon and Aly Powers added a basket each in the first period. West scored again for Greensburg to start the second period before the Lady Braves went on a run and going up 19-14 midway through the frame. The Lady Pirates finished the half with baskets from Powers and West, then Harmon hit a free throw to tie the game up 19-19 at the half.

Greensburg’s Powers and Harmon started the third period going four-of-four from the foul line. A Brownstown three put them up by four, until Carlee Adams got on the board with her own basket from deep. The Lady Braves then hit consecutive three-point baskets and the score was 33-26 with three minutes to go in the period. West cut the lead after hitting two shots in a row, Harmon got a basket to drop in, and the Lady Pirates were back to being down by just one. With 40 seconds to go in the period, Powers scored, and Greensburg had their first lead of the ball game. Powers pushed the lead to three by dropping in a basket at the buzzer. Greensburg led going into the fourth quarter 36-33. West pushed it to a five-point lead before the Lady Braves went on a 6-0 run and it was 39-38 Brownstown. Harmon regained the lead for Greensburg and Adams landed another from outside the arc putting the Lady Bucs up 43-39. With one minute to go the Lady Braves hit a three-point shot, 30 seconds later another to go up by two. A pair of free throws by the Lady Braves finished off the game and Brownstown Central won 47-43.

Leading the Lady Pirates in scoring was West with 15, Powers 13, Harmon 9, and Adams 6. Greensburg will get a week off to prepare for an EIAC matchup on the road against Batesville (9-8) on Jan 21.
