Lady Tigers claw out a win over Batesville

BATESVILLE- The Lady Tigers traveled to Batesville on Thursday for an EIAC matchup. They traveled back to Lawrenceburg with their first conference win and now hold a 5-2 record on the season. Batesville got seven players in the scoring column and the game was tied at halftime, but they couldn’t overcome a third quarter run by the Lady Tigers that put them up by 1. After the loss Batesville is now 1-1 in EIAC games and 4-5 on the season.

Lawrenceburg jumped out to an early 8-4 lead after a Nicole Houze three pointer. Batesville came back and took a one-point lead after an Emma Weiler layup. Natalie Knigga went to the charity stripe for the Lady Tigers and tied the game up at 11-11 to end the first quarter.

Aubree Labazzo got Lawrenceburg ahead to start the second period with a three-point shot. Cora Deputy and Lydia Haskamp each scored to tie the game back up. Houze then hit her second three of the game to put LHS back on top, 17-14. The Lady Dogs picked up a free throw and a basket to tie the game back up, Deputy then hit a mid-range jumper to give BHS their first lead in the quarter. The Lady Tigers tied the game back up at 19-19 just before the half with a Lizzie Redar basket.

Labazzo repeated her second quarter start with another long ball to give LHS the lead. Batesville went on a 4-0 run and retook the lead at the midway point in the period. Houze answered again with another three that started a 12-0 Lady Tiger run that lasted until the end of the quarter when Haskamp finally scored. Lawrenceburg led after three quarters 36-27. Both teams began the final frame with each hitting a pair of freebies. Kamryn Ferreira hit a three for LHS to give them a 10-point lead, Knigga added two from the free throw line, then BHS scored seven points Haskamp 3, Sophie Gesell 4, cutting the Lady Tigers lead to five points. It was 43-38 with two minutes to go in the contest. Lawrenceburg finished off the game hitting six freebies to earn the 51-44 victory.

The Lady Dogs have the weekend off and will face Franklin County (8-2) on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers will be in action Saturday when they host Connersville (5-5) and Tuesday they host Milan (1-8) both games have a 7:30 pm start time.
