Lady Wildcats swinging into fall

The Franklin County Lady Wildcat golf team, under the leadership of second-year head coach Taylor Erfman, got another promising season underway last week at Liberty Country Club.

Playing on Tuesday for the season debut after not having enough practice in for the annual Richmond Invitational the day prior, the girls placed fourth among nine schools with a collective round of 382. The team’s senior leaders paced the effort with Crystal Calihan shooting 85 and Nicole Mears 86; classmate Lillie Graf was next at 93. Senior Jacy Grimmeissen added 122 and Emma Tolhurst 118.

At Greensburg Country Club Saturday, the Wildcats earned fifth place out of 18 teams. Calihan (83), Mears (84) and Graf (88) were atop the Cats’ leaderboard again as Grimmeissen posted 108 and Tolhurst 111.

FC advanced to another regional last fall where they placed ninth overall as a squad. This year’s postseason starts Sept. 16 at Greensburg Country Club.

Lady Dogs strong early on

Batesville girls golf had a solid showing in the first week of the 2023 campaign, closing with a 10th-place finish at the invite-only Fall State Preview at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs’ total settled at 347 with junior Addyson Weiler leading the way with a 6-over par 78 – good for 9th place individually. Senior Josie Meyer was next at 82 and sophomore Ava South made her season debut count with an 84. Freshman Alexis Gallagher had the last counting score at 103 and classmate Grace Saner totaled 124.

The team had made it a perfect 2-of-2 out of the starting gate with last Tuesday’s tournament victory at Liberty Country Club in the Union County Invitational. After winning at Richmond the previous day, the Dogs duplicated the big win by undercutting runner-up Richmond by 25 strokes (339-364). The host Patriots were third at 371.

Weiler had a medalist effort of 72 and Meyer tied for second overall with 76. Gallagher shot 93, sophomore Zoey Ahern 98 and Saner 108.

The first dual meet of the year took place Monday at Columbus East with BHS pocketing a comfortable 158-186 win. On the East 9 track of Otter Creek, Meyer shot a splendid one-under 35 as both Weiler (39) and South (38) came in under 40. Ahern had the fourth score of 46 while Saner and Gallagher each landed 53. Carter Gant paced CE with 38.

Rushville girls golf gets win

Rushville wins 3-way in Greenfield

On Monday afternoon, the Lady Lions Golfers traveled to Hawk’s Tail Golf Club in Greenfield to take on Triton Central and Greenfield Central in a 3-way match.  The Lady Lions came out on top with a team total of 214 which bested Triton Central at 243 and Greenfield Central at 247.  The Lady Lions were led by Emma Tressler who earned medalist honors with a round of 46.  The runner up was Lady Lion Megan Alexander with 48.  Also competing for the Lady Lions were Clair Waits shooting 60, Lauren Megee shot 62, and Abby Hill shot 64.  The Lady Lions will take their 2-0 record back on the road Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Highland Lake Golf Course in Richmond to take on Centerville.

Lady Lions 12th at Greensburg

The Rushville Lady Lions’ golf team traveled to Greensburg Country Club on Saturday for the Greensburg Invitational.

The Lady Lions placed 12th out of the 18 teams competing. They were led by Emma Tressler who shot 94. She was followed by Clair Waits who shot 100, Megan Alexander shot 101, Lauren Megee scored her personal best 122 and Heaven Denney shot 135 in her first-ever golf competition. The Lady Lions’ team total was 417.

The team event was won by Center Grove who shot 315. The individual medalist was Rowan Pies from East Central who shot 67.

Lady Bulldogs start with team win, EC’s Pies shoots 71 to win individual

High school sports are officially underway with several EIAC girls golf teams teeing off at the Elks Club for the Richmond Invitational on Monday. The Batesville Lady Bulldogs shot 322 to take a decisive team victory, finishing 34 strokes ahead of the second-place hosts, Lady Red Devils of Richmond. East Central shot a 409 and finished in fifth, while Rushville took sixth with a team score of 414, and Connersville brought up the rear with a score of 467.

The individual low medalist was East Central’s Rowan Pies with a 71. Also finishing in the top five, Josie Meyer (Batesville) 74, Alex Goowin (Centerville) 77, Isabella Roll (Richmond) 80 and Addyson Weiler (Batesville) 80.
